Lambda Pi Eta inducts four new members at UVa-Wise
Four new members were inducted into the Rho Xi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta in a May ceremony at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Lambda Pi Eta is the honor society of the National Communication Association, whose purpose is to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievements in communication studies.
Membership in Lambda Pi Eta is composed of undergraduate students who have declared an interest in the field of communication and have achieved a high level of academic excellence. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed 60 hours of undergraduate courses, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, have completed 12 semester hours in communication courses with a GPA of at least 3.25 in those courses, be in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class, and be currently enrolled as a full-time student in good standing.
Launched by students of the Department of Communication at the University of Arkansas in 1985, Lambda Pi Eta is now recognized by the Speech Communication Association as the official national communication honor society for undergraduate students. With 250 chapters worldwide, Lambda Pi Eta has been a member of the Association of College Honor Societies since 1996. The society’s three Greek letters represent Aristotle’s three modes of persuasion: Logos, meaning logic; Pathos, relating to emotion; and Ethos, defined as character, credibility and ethics.
