Carpenter, Sage named co-chairs of UVa-Wise Annual Fund Class Council

Jonnette “MJ” Dixon Carpenter and Bob Sage – two energetic alumni of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise – will co-chair the College’s Annual Fund Class Council this fall.

The Council was created in 2003 to involve members of each graduating class in the fundraising process. The group meets each fall with other alumni leaders to learn about the most recent projects and renovations around campus.

Members hear inspirational remarks from the co-chairs about how the College impacted their lives, why they give to the College and how donating makes a critical difference. Council members serve as role models by committing a gift to the College.

“This year’s co-chairs are two very dynamic individuals who have excelled in their careers and personal lives,” said Tami Ely, interim vice chancellor for development and college relations. “They are ideal leaders who have always been supportive and involved in the life of the College. In a time when the economy is in a downward spiral, it is even more critical that we have support from our alumni and friends. We know MJ and Bob will help us greatly this year.”

Carpenter graduated from UVa-Wise in 2001 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. She earned a master’s degree in business administration from Virginia Tech in 2003.

While at UVa-Wise, Carpenter was a member of the Alpha Delta Chi sorority and the captain of the cheerleading squad. Carpenter served on the Student Government Association for four years and was SGA president for one year.

She works for Pfizer as a therapeutic specialty representative in the Powers Neuro Pain Division. Carpenter lives in Roanoke with her husband Shawn.
Sage graduated from the College in 1979 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He received a master’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary in 1999.

He was a member of the Student Council Association and a member of the Young Republicans while at UVa-Wise. He is a founding member of the Tau Beta Chi fraternity.

Sage is vice president of wireless sales for NTELOS Wireless in Waynesboro. He lives in Virginia Beach with his wife Laura and their three children.
